Battle of the Books 2024 - Application Form

Description: Battle of the Books is a reading program for 6^th, 7^th, and 8^th grade students. Teams of 2-6 middle school students are invited to read from a selected set of books and compete to answer questions based on those books. Among the team, members read 1 to 7 books, arrange practice sessions, and participate in the final competition.

Eligibility: All 6^th, 7^th, and 8^th grade students who live or go to school in Northville are eligible to participate. Teams of 2 to 6 students can be in different grades, attend different schools, or home school. Each team is required to have one adult to act as a Team Manager.

Registration: Registration begins December 1 online at northvillelibrary.org, or in-person at the Northville District Library. Upon registration, each team can pick up a free set of all seven Battle Books at the Library. Registration may be completed online or by submitting a printed version of the form (a PDF download is available below) to the Library's upstairs Information Desk. Each team needs to have a team name on the registration form, and all registrations MUST be submitted by Monday, January 29.

Team Manager Responsibilities: A Team Manager must be an adult who will serve as the contact person between the team and the Northville District Library. Managers must attend the Managers Meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 29. Managers should coordinate team meetings to prepare for Battle, and inform the Library of any team changes or corrections by Sunday, February 11.

Competition Date & Location: TEAMS MUST ARRIVE AT THE NORTHVILLE HIGH SCHOOL BY 6:00 p.m. for check-in, as Battle of the Books begins promptly at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12. Although costumes are still welcome at the event itself, our annual costume contest will be held through social media. To enter, please submit a photo of your team in their costumes, along with the team name, to nmolnar@northvillelibrary.org anytime between March 1 – March 8.
