Founded in 1880 by brothers Herbert B., Clayton A., and Ira L. Grinnell in Ann Arbor, the company grew into one of the most influential music businesses in the Midwest, operating three piano factories and more than forty branch locations across Michigan. At its height, Grinnell pianos could be found in homes throughout the state.
