Henry Ford loved the American farmer and helped them whenever he could. One way was to build manufacturing plants in rural areas around Metro Detroit to supply parts for his assembly lines for the Model T, the Model A, and other later models. These plants, known as Village Industries, provided farm workers a stable source of income during winter months. They began with a plant in Northville in 1919 and expanded to Plymouth and Newburgh and eventually numbered 19 plants.
