These communication tools are available in folders at the Information and Reference Desks. The boards were developed with local Speech and Language Pathologists using Wayne RESA (Regional Educational Service Agencies) standards, with an additional board from Oakland County Schools.<\/p>\n<p>Folders include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wayne RESA standard 20 square board<\/li>\n<li>Wayne RESA standard 32 square board<\/li>\n<li>Oakland County Schools 48 square board<\/li>\n<li>Behavioral Keyring from Autism Supplies and Development<\/li>\n<li>Communication Keyring from Autism Supplies and Development<\/li>\n<li>Countdown Keyring from Autism Supplies and Development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Five sensory kits are also available at the Information Desk for in-library patron use. These kits are designed to help children and adults who need tools or toys to help calm or stimulate their nervous system. Each kit has a variety of tools and toys. Two kits are recommended for children 3 years of age and up. Hanging the bike from the hanger arms allows the pedals and wheels to spin freely while making adjustments. Swing by the library for a tune-up, and then hop on Hines for a ride!<em>\u00a0Generously sponsored by The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/northvillelibrary.org\/?page_id=22028\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Friends of the Library<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\t\t\t\tBook Club Kits\n\t\t\t\t<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/northvillelibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/DSC_0903a-300x171.jpg\" alt=\"Book Club on the Go\" width=\"415\" height=\"237\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/northvillelibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Book-Club-on-the-Go-Bib-MASTER.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Complete list of book kit titles<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Each kit contains\u00a0<strong><em>8 copies of\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>fiction or non-fiction titles<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0chosen based on professional reviews, award lists, and recommendations from Northville book group members.<\/li>\n<li>Each kit includes a folder with book discussion questions, author biography, and book reviews.<\/li>\n<li>The kits are checked out to one person who is responsible for all of the materials.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong><em>kits check out for 6 weeks<\/em><\/strong>. Kits can be placed on hold. Kits can be renewed once if no holds exist.<\/li>\n<li>New kits with new titles will be added throughout the year.<\/li>\n<li>Single copies of the books\u00a0<strong>may not<\/strong>\u00a0be checked out from the kit.<\/li>\n<li>The kit must be returned with all materials.<\/li>\n<li>Items from the kit cannot be returned separately. Incomplete kits will not be accepted and will incur fines once the due date is reached. Overdue Book Group kits will be fined $1.00 a day to a maximum of $25.00 Replacement cost of an entire kit is $100.00. Replacement costs of individual items will depend on the cost of the missing\/damaged item.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\tDyslexic Collection\n\t\t\t\t<p>To ensure the accessibility of reading to all, Northville District Library has created the Dyslexic Collection, a dyslexia-friendly youth print material collection.<\/p>\n<p>This unique collection consists of picture books, early readers, and chapter books that use large-print, sans-serif fonts and contrasting colored paper and fonts to support easier reading. Additionally, colored overlays are available at the Information Desk for in-library use. Colored overlays allow readers to experiment with color contrasting, making reading easier, as well as using the ruler to stay on the current line and move smoothly to the next line.<\/p>\n<p>The Dyslexic Collection was made possible by the generous donation from Kathy Alrubaiy in honor of her Aunt Evelyn. NDL will continue to grow this collection so that all may experience the joys of reading.<\/p>\n<p>Dyslexia-friendly reading may also be downloaded on Libby or Hoopla. Users can edit their settings to dyslexia-friendly fonts and color contrasting.
