Library Board of Trustees 2020 Election Filing Information

The terms of three members of the Northville District Library Board of Trustees will expire at the end of this year. Individuals wishing to run for one of these seats in the November election are required to register as a candidate with the Wayne County Clerk’s Office. This process will involve completing an Affidavit of Identity and Receipt of Filing document.  A link to this document can be found HERE.

In addition to this document, applicants will also need to file a nonpartisan nominating petition with a minimum of 100 signatures and a maximum of 200 signatures of registered voters living in the District.  In lieu of a petition, applicants can also pay a $100.00 fee. Filing deadline is July 16, 2020 by 4 pm.

The Library Board is composed of seven elected trustees whose main function is to oversee the operation of the Northville District Library. The District includes both the city and township of Northville, and to be eligible, one must be a registered voter residing in either the Township or City of Northville.

Trustees elected this year will serve four-year terms, beginning in January, 2021. Meetings of the Library Board of Trustees are held on the fourth Thursday of each month. Trustees also serve on several standing committees, with meetings scheduled as needed.

Trustees act as strong advocates for the Library, work to ensure adequate funding and careful allocation of library resources, and make decisions regarding library policy. A willingness to serve the library and its community is the most important qualification for anyone seeking this office.

Candidates must submit a completed and notarized affidavit, along with a certified check or money order made out to the Wayne County Clerk, or petitions.  No personal checks are accepted. Nominating petitions are available at the Library, and can be picked up at the Library by calling 248.349.3020 to schedule a pickup time, or staff will mail one to you.

The deadline for submitting petitions or the filing fee is Thursday, July 16 by 4 pm to this address:  Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, 2 Woodward Ave., Room 502, Detroit, MI 48226.  The election will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
