Brainfuse: Adult Learning Center

Get LIVE one-on-one coaching from trained experts, in areas ranging from Microsoft computers skills and resumé writing to academic courses at all levels.  Submit a written document for checking by a certified writing teacher.  Offers many practice tests, for a chance to brush up on your skills. Online tutoring offered daily from 2 pm – 11 pm.

 

Learning Express: Adult Core Skills

Improve your basic skills in reading, writing, speaking, and grammar, as well as basic math.    Also includes GED and U.S. Citizenship practice tests.  For refresher courses on more advanced material try the College Center, also a part of Learning Express Library.

Learning Express: Career Center

Prepare for a career with occupational and entrance test prep.  Practice Nursing and Allied Health entrance exams, civil service exams, and military tests such as the ASVAB.  Ranges from Cosmetology and CDL to Homeland Security and Real Estate.  Help develop your career path with practical information on many different jobs.

Gale Courses

Hundreds of online courses, on subjects related to professional or personal development, led by expert instructors. From computer skills to grant writing, from test prep to accounting, there is something here for all interests. Courses run for 6 weeks, and are free to anyone with a Northville Library card.

  • Code – Expands access to computer science by women and students. Tutorials teach programming, app development, html, working with robots, and more.
  • Digitalliteracy.gov – Provides a variety of resources and tools for teaching computer and Internet skills, which are increasingly necessary for success in today’s in today’s economy. Find free training on a range of digital literacy topics, at different skill levels, including searching and applying for jobs online.
  • Driver Education – Free driver practice tests specifically for Michigan.  Permits, road signs, motorcycle, commercial drivers license (CDL), fines and limits all available. Links to official Michigan online handbooks for drivers, motorcycles and CDL.
  • GCF LearnFree Technology – Free computer tutorials on basics, email, MAC, Windows, devices, cloud usage, social media. Also in Spanish at the sister site, GCFAprendeLibre.org, which is based in Colombia and offers technology, reading, math, and life skills in Spanish.
  • Tech Guide Handouts – New York Public Library created guides for a variety of internet and computer related topics.  Some are in world languages as well as English and a couple are New York specific.
  • Techboomers – Free online courses for over 60 popular and useful websites and apps, for older adults and inexperienced Internet users.
