Barking Book Buddies! Read to a  Dog Program

Reading to dogs helps kids improve self-confidence with reading!  Barking book buddies from The Fur Angels Pet Therapy Group will visit the library for quiet one-on-one sessions in the Storytime Room with independently reading kids up through 5th grade. Participating kids will also receive an I LOVE TO READ plush dog to read to at home. Registration is required and sign up begins one week before each scheduled program. Please call or sign up in person at the Information Desk per registration dates. This program generously sponsored by The Friends of the Library.

March is Reading Month. Get Hooked on Books playing BOOK BINGO!

Celebrate March is Reading Month, March 1st – 31st! All kids up through 5th grade get hooked on books playing BOOK BINGO! Starting March 1st, pick up your Bingo Game at the Information Desk or print one here, play the game by crossing off the boxes to make a bingo either across, down or diagonally, then submit your completed game to choose your reward. The last day to turn in Bingo Games is March 31st. One game per person.

Let’s Talk about Autism

This event is intended for kids ages 4 – 12, and families are welcome.
Let’s talk about AUTISM with Kelly Beins, seasoned therapist with over twenty years experience in Pediatric Occupational Therapy and Director of Occupational Therapy Consulting, LLC, writer for Autism Parenting Magazine, and author of the picture books about a lovable sheep with sensory challenges, Ovis Has Trouble with School and Ovis Has Trouble Eating. Kelly will join us via Skype, leading a discussion with kids about autism, sharing her books, and kids will take home a fun Ovis finger puppet craft.  This program is offered as part of the 2019 “Let’s Talk About” series in conjunction with the libraries of Lyon Township, Novi, Salem-South Lyon, Walled Lake and Wixom. Each month one of the partnering libraries will host a reading and discussion exploring a different social justice topic. Parents are required to stay with their children during the program to help guide them through these discussions.  Online registration required. Sign up begins February 1, 2019. Limit 85 attendees.

  • Certain activities require a FREE TICKET available immediately prior to daily events at the Information Desk. Expect a waiting line for tickets and please understand shows may “sell out.”
  • Tickets may not be reserved in advance. A maximum of four tickets per person.
  • “Drop-In” activities do not require a ticket.
  • Tween programs are exclusively for kids ages 9 – 12. Registration is required for Tween events. Register online per registration dates.
