| Interlibrary Loan |
Interlibrary loan, or “ILL”, is a service we offer to patrons of Northville District Library. The Interlibrary Loan service will locate and borrow items which are not owned by Northville District Library or any other libraries in our shared TLN (The Library Network) system. In most cases, we are also able to acquire photocopies of journal articles and even microfilms through ILL. When searching for materials in our catalog if you find we do not have something you want, you can initiate an ILL request through the librarian at the Information Desk or the Reference Desk. The librarian will want to know the title and author of the item as well as your name, phone number and library card number. Most libraries will not lend entire periodicals, rare or fragile materials or reference books. Newly published books may also be difficult to borrow When requesting an item through ILL, there is no initial fee attached. We always try to obtain materials from libraries that do not charge extra fees. On occasion, the item is only available through a library that charges additional fees and these charges would be passed onto you. However, we will never agree to these charges without your prior authorization. When an item is requested through ILL, we search other Michigan libraries as well as those out of state. Once we are informed by one of these libraries that the item is available and will be sent, it can take 2-4 weeks for Northville District Library to receive it. As soon as the item is received and processed, you will be notified that it is available for pick-up. Should you need to renew and ILL item, please call us at 248-349-3020 before the item is due. We then contact the lending library to request an extended due date. A one time renewal of ILL materials may be granted at the discretion of the lending library. |
