44 gardeners braved the wind and rain this week to hear Drew Lathin talk about the importance of native plants and the impact our actions can have on our environment and natural habitats. He recommended that you replace your butterfly bushes with butterfly weed plants, make sure you include the Helianthus sunflower to feed our bees, and oak trees to support more than 500 species.
If you’d like to support an endangered butterfly, plant wild lupine to provide food for the Karner Blue caterpillars (Remember to have a few milkweed plants for monarchs, too!)
Drew returns to the library on April 17 and 25 to talk about designing landscapes and rain gardens with native plants. Visit our online Event Calendar to register.
