Indiana teens, Violet Markey and Theodore Finch, meet by chance at the perilous top of their high school campus bell tower at the critical moment when each may, or may not, be contemplating jumping. Violet’s life is halted by the oppressive grief of a family tragedy. Finch’s life is defined by his intrinsic design, manifesting in the manic episodes of bipolar disorder. This serendipitous meeting changes the course of both of their lives in remarkable ways.
ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES is lovely and tragic, just like life. A compelling Young Adult novel not to be missed, shedding light on the complexities and stigma of mental illness, encouraging empathy and the understanding that an individual is so much more than the simple label of a diagnosis.
The film adaptation for ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES, starring actress Elle Fanning as Violet Markey, is currently in production with theatrical release slated in 2018.
